Olympic gold medallist Alexander Zverev says he may skip Toronto to get ready for US Open

Recently crowned Olympic gold medallist Alexander Zverev indicated that he might not make it to the Toronto event but will surely be attending the US Open.
“There is nothing better than this”
Alexander Zverev has had to himself quite an exciting couple of weeks, winning the gold medal in his first attempt itself. He overcame Novak Djokovic in the semi final of the Olympics before going on to dispatch Karen Khachanov in the final. He actually made light work of the final, winning 6-3, 6-1 inside 80 minutes itself.
He had reached the showpiece event after battling past world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi final, a match he won despite having lost the first set 6-1. He then won the second set 6-3 before winning the third by a margin of 6-1 despite Novak trying to make a comeback. “This is so much bigger than anything in the tennis world—in the sports world,” Zverev said. “There’s nothing better than this. You’re playing for everybody involved. This is not only for yourself; this is for everybody.”
“Don’t think I will fly to Canada”
Zverev, who dropped just one set in Tokyo, has won ATP Tour titles at the Madrid Open and at Acapulco this year. He now looks forward to the hard court series that take place just before the year-ending US Open and has cast doubts over his participation in one of them.
Zverev says he may skip the Rogers Cup in Toronto: “The plan was to fly to Canada, but I don’t know if I will do it.”
He also threw any suggestions of him missing the US Open out of the window, saying, “But I will definitely play the US Open”. He will be, as expected, missing the Washington Open, which already hosts a pool of big names including crowd favourite Rafael Nadal and the enigmatic Nick Kyrgios.
