Kevin Anderson vs Jack Sock: Preview
Kevin Anderson and Jack Sock both won their respective second round ties but had very contrasting paths to victory.
The scorecard showed a straight sets win for South African Kevin but it was a battle which he ultimately won 7-5, 7-6 (3) in an hour and 33 minutes against Sebastian Ofner , a match in which Kevin surprisingly didn’t face a single break point, rather finding it difficult to break his opposition down.
On the other hand, Jack eased to victory in straight sets against Yoshihito Nishioka, 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and eight minutes to advance to the quarters of the only ATP tournament the American has played this year, having entered Newport via a wildcard after having dropped outside the top-200.
Kevin Anderson vs Jack Sock: Head to Head
Kevin and Jack have locked horns 4 times and the head-to-head record stands at 2-2. Three out of these four meetings have taken place in the USA with Anderson winning two of them while the one match which took place on clay was won by Sock. The pair last met in 2017, a match in match in which Anderson emerged victorious 6-3,6-4.
Kevin Anderson vs Jack Sock: Prediction
World number 100 Kevin Anderson comes into the match as favourite against Jack Sock, who is ranked a lowly 231. However, as Ofner showed us yesterday, Kevin can most certainly be stretched to tie breakers and hence a possible upset can’t be rules and that will serve as motivation for Sock as he looks to book a semifinal place against the odds.
Prediction: A 3 set win for the South African.
