Bianca Andreescu will be making her main draw Grass debut on the WTA tour at the 2021 Berlin Open. The 20-year old Canadian’s only WTA matches before this have been her bid to reach the main draw of the 2017 and 2018 Wimbledon where she was defeated in the 3rd qualifying round on both occasions.

She reaches Berlin from a shocking first round defeat at the 2021 French Open. She lost in 3-set thriller to eventual semi-finalist Tamara Zidansek, will be looking to regain her start of the year form before her injury in the 2021 Miami Open finals which saw her retire mid-match.

Alize Cornet comes into the tie from a straight-set victory in the first round against American teenager Amanda Anisimova. Cornet last played on Grass in her first round defeat at the 2019 Wimbledon and will be looking to improve before the 2021 Wimbledon as she has not been a great player on Grass so far.

Cornet travelled to Berlin from the 2021 French Open and similar to Bianca was defeated in the first round. Cornet lost to wildcard entrant Harmony Tan who later succumbed in the 2nd round of the Grand Slam.

Bianca Andreescu vs Alize Cornet : Prediction

Bianca Andreescu will be the favourite in her upcoming 2nd round clash at the Berlin Open 2021.
Bianca Andreescu

Bianca will be playing her first tournament without long-time coach Sylvain Bruneau and it will be interesting to see how the Canadian copes up on another different surface since her injury that halted her good run so far this season. She comes into the match with a season record of 11-4 and career Grass record of 12-5 that includes her appearances on the ITF circuit.

Alize Cornet has not been upto the mark this season and has struggled poorly on Grass across her career. She has a career grass record of 20-30 which includes her 1st round win this week, and is on 11-14 for the season this year. Looking at these numbers, Bianca will be the favourite for the match but the match has the potential to swing either ways.

Prediction: Bianca Andreescu to win in 3-sets.
