Andy Murray finally meets his new coach Ivan Lendl ahead of the 2022 Miami Masters
Andy Murray and Ivan Lendl
World No. 88 Andy Murray continues to work towards rising in the ATP rankings having broken into the Top-100 this year for the first time after 45 months. The Brit is looking for consistency in results but his low rank sees him participate only through wildcards. While Murray is able to fend off the first two rounds, he is unable to move ahead in the events.
Murray’s challenge to find a permanent coach finally ended when he re-hired 2-time former coach Ivan Lendl under whom he won all 3 of his Grand Slams, both of his Olympic golds and also became the World No. 1 in what was a golden phase of the Brit’s career that also saw him get a knighthood from the Queen of England.
In what look to be the final years of his career, Murray has called back Lendl for one final good run to retire on a high. While the Brit has already announced that he will skip the Clay season, Lendl and Murray will prepare for the Grass season where Murray stands the best chance to claim some silverware as he is better suited to the surface.
The pair however could not resist the temptation to pair up as the two met at the Rick Macci tennis academy in Boca Raton and Murray also did some practice with Ivan watching from the side. While they did not announce whether Lendl will travel with Murray for the 2022 Miami Masters set to begin next week, they did pose for photos being one of the most anticipated coach-player pairings.
Andy Murray’s record at the Miami Masters
Murray gets the wildcard for the 2022 Miami Masters as well for his fantastic record not only as a Pro but also at the tournament. Having made his debut in 2006, he lost in the first round but reached the semi-final in 2007. After an early exit in 2008, he went on to win the 2009 Miami Masters title against Novak Djokovic in the finals, his first at the tournament.
After consecutive early exits, he reached the final again in 2012 but Novak came out on top this time. He improved the next year to win his second title at the 2013 Miami Masters. He reached another final in 2015 but Novak got the better of him once again. Murray’s last appearance at the tournament came in 2016 when he lost in the 3rd round.
