FANTASTIC PERSONALITY! Andy Murray heaps praise on Emma Raducanu for a superb 2021 season!

Emma Raducanu without a doubt has been the find of this season. She started the year outside the top 300 and finished it as a top 20 player. She shocked the world at Wimbledon by reaching the fourth round and stunned everyone at US Open again after she became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a grand slam. It is to be noted that she won the major without dropping a set- that is 10 straight sets victories in 20 days!

The 18-year old Brit has received praises from all around the world and now, 3-time grand slam champion Andy Murray has vouched in once again. Murray is currently playing the Mubadala World Tennis Championship where he made it to the final after defeating old rival Rafael Nadal in straight sets 6-3,7-5 and will now face Andrey Rublev in the final.

Raducanu is the frontrunner to win the BBC SPOTY award and Murray said that she should absolutely win the award as she was part of one of the biggest sporting moments of the year. Raducanu is nominated for the award alongside the likes of Tom Daley, Tyson Fury, Sarah Storey, Raheem Sterling and Adam Peaty.

“She created arguably one of the biggest sporting moments of the year, so yeah, she deserves to win. Anytime I won I always got accused of having no personality, she certainly is a fantastic personality. I hope she wins,” Murray said.

Post his match with Nadal, he acknowledged that both of them have gone though injury scares and it is a great opportunity to compete once again.

“Me and Rafa have played so many tough matches over the years… both of us have gone through injury troubles and it’s just great to have the opportunity to be with him on court again,” the Brit said.

After an amazing outing in Abu Dhabi, Murray will now head to Australia for the new season. He is expected to accept a wild card at one of the ATP 250 events to tune up for the Australian Open. He isn’t named in the qualifying list of the Australian Open so it is likely that he’ll receive a wild card.
