Currently ranked World No. 102 Andy Murray has again made temporary hiring of a coach as he returns to the tour after his second-round exit from the 2022 Australian Open where he was coached by Jan De Witt. While Witt helped him to a runner-up finish at the 2022 Sydney Tennis Classic, the exit from Melbourne Park also saw him quit the Murray camp.

Murray made the announcement shortly after his exit from the Australian Open and was on the hunt for his new coach and it seems to have ended. As per reports of the Tennis Podcast, the Brit has decided to recall former coach Dani Vallverdu who had earlier coached Murray from 2010 to 2014 and the pair has known each other since they were teens.

The pair have also played together but Murray’s successful career eventually saw Dani join Murray as his training partner and later his coach. Under the tutelage of Dani, Murray won the 2012 US Open and the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. Murray had also won the Gold medal in singles in the 2012 London Olympics having finished as the runner-up earlier in the 2012 Wimbledon Championships.

Murray and Dani will test their pairing for the first time at the upcoming 2022 Rotterdam Open where Murray is a former champion. With 3 events lined up for Murray back-to-back in February, it could be a make-or-break deal for Vallverdu as the coach for Murray who is looking to break into the Top-100 as quickly as possible that will help him delay playing top-ranked players in the tournaments.

Vallverdu has been a part of Stan Wawrinka‘s coaching team since 2019. Dani became the Swiss’ head coach in the 2020 season and is currently helping him to return to action after the 3-time Grand Slam champion had to undergo surgery on his left foot in the 2021 season that saw him miss the entire season.
