US Open 2021: Angelique Kerber vs Leylah Fernandez LIVE stream: When, Where, and How to Watch

The Round of 16 of the US Open 2021 will see 3-time Grand Slam champion and World No. 17 Angelique Kerber take on World No. 73 Leylah Fernandez who has taken the tennis fraternity by surprise through her performances this past week in New York.

Leylah is one of the upcoming talents to burst onto the scene at the US Open with the 18-year old being one of the least expected players to make it to the 4th round. The Canadian prior to the US Open had seen early exits in all her previous tournaments since she won the title at the 2021 Monterrey Open.

Kerber did not have a great start to the season but has seen a change in fortunes since her title at the 2021 Bad Homburg Open. The German has since made it to the semi-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon and 2021 Cincinnati Open and has looked in great touch at the US Open as well.

Kerber started off with a 3-set win over Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in the 1st round in what became a thrilling contest that not many expected. She then met another Ukrainian in the form of Anhelina Kalinina whom she overcame in straight-sets. Kerber then met former US Open winner Sloane Stephens in the 3rd round and despite losing the 1st set won the next two comfortably to reach the 4th round for the 6th time.

Leylah won her first two rounds in straight-sets against Croatian Ana Konjuh and Estonian Kaia Kanepi in the 1st and 2nd rounds respectively. She faced one of the toughest tests in the 3rd round when she was pitted against the 4-time Grand Slam champion and also the defending US Open champion Naomi Osaka and went on to defeat the Japanese in 3-sets to cause one of the biggest upsets of the Slam this year.
