Anisimova comes into this match after beating Oceane Dodin in straight sets. She also beat Tereza Martincova, Kamilla Rakhimova and Maddison Inglis in the initial rounds. It hasn’t been a very fruitful season for the American till now. Although Anisimova made the quarterfinals of Bad Homburg and Parma, the 19-year-old has a 13-12 win/loss record till now for 2021.  As far as the hard courts are concerned, she was on seven matches on the surface thus far and it is on the hard courts, where she is more likely do inflict some damage. With a couple of crucial wins already in Montreal, the American girl will carry some belief as she takes on the No.4 seed.

On the other hand, Pliskova comes into this match after beating Donna Vekic in three sets in the previous round. She was a surprise package at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, where she made the finals. On the clay as well, she made the finals of Rome and the quarters of Stuttgart. Surprisingly, the Czech player hasn’t done too well on her preferred surface for the year till now.

Pliskova will come out and bank on her big serve to get cheap points. Given her status as the Ace Queen of the WTA tour, expect the No.4 seed to serve big and win quick points of her first forehand too. On the other hand, Anisimova will need to be careful about not leaking double faults regularly. While it is tough to see an upset, expect the American to push the Czech player.
