ATP Cordoba Open, a 250-event will be held starting from January 31. The tournament kickstarts the South American tennis season, and is played on clay courts. The tournament made its debut on the ATP tour only in 2019. Juan Cerundolo claimed the ATP title in Cordoba last time around. This year, Diego Schwartzman is the top seed, whereas, Dominic Thiem is seeded second. The Austrian makes his return to the competitive stage after a long layoff of almost 8 months due to injury.

Diego Schwartzman, top seed at Cordoba Open is placed in the top half of the draw. He has received a bye in the first round, and will face either Federico Coria or Juan Pablo Ficovich in the second round clash. In the third round, the Argentine could face Frenchman, Benoit Paire who is coming back off a good run at Australian Open.

Diego Schwartzman’s toughest challenge could come in the quarterfinals, where he is expected to face third seed and Chilean, Cristian Garin according to the rankings. Garin has received a bye in round one, and will face either Sebastian Baez or Fernando Verdasco in the second round. We expect Sebastian Baez to create an upset or two this tournament, and make defeat Garin in the second round. He could reach the semifinals, where he faces Diego Schwartzman.

Sixth seed, Albert Ramos Vinolas faces Andrej Martin in the first round. Lorenzo Sonego has received a bye in round one, and the fourth seed could face Danish prodigy, Holger Rune in the second round. Sonego and Ramos-Vinolas are expected to battle for the semifinal spot, where the Italian will emerge victorious.

Dominic Thiem, seeded second at Cordoba Open has also received a bye in round one. He has an easy draw in the opening rounds, as his toughest challenge would come in the quarterfinals against Pedro Martinez. He is expected to win the last 8 battle, and set up a semifinal battle with Lorenzo Sonego.

Diego Schwartzman and Sebastian Baez will clash against each other in an-all Argentine battle. Baez could have a breakthrough year in 2022, which will kickstart with an upset win over top seed, Diego Schwartzman in the semifinals.

In the second semifinals, Lorenzo Sonego will halt Dominic Thiem’s comeback run in a nervy three set win. This means that Sonego and Baez will clash against each other to claim their first title of the season.

Lorenzo Sonego will edge out Sebastian Baez in the final in three sets. The Italian’s experience will get the better of the Argentine, who would reach his first ever ATP final.
