Lorenzo Musetti vs Aljaz Bedene: Match Preview
Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti burst onto the scene when he beat Diego Schwartzman en route to the Semi-final of Acapulco Open 2021. Musetti, who was a qualifier, eventually lost in the Semi-finals to Stefanos Tsitsipas. The former junior World No.1’s exploits at Acapulco helped him break into the top 100.
Musetti started the clay court leg of the season in decent form as well. He reached the Quarter-final of the first event he played, the Sardegna Open. Since then though, a combination of tough opponents and hard luck has stopped him from recreating the Acapulco magic. In the first round here, he beat World No.19 Felix Auger Aliassime 7-6 3-6 7-5. In the second round he defeated American Sebastian Korda. 6-3 1-6 6-4. In the Quarter-finals he will be up against Aljaz Bedene.
The thirty-one year old Bedene has not won an ATP Title till now. His best finish on clay this season has been reaching the Quarter-finals of the Sardegna Open. In the first round here, he beat Frenchman Gilles Simon. In the second he pulled off a coup by beating David Goffin. Bedene beat the fourth seed in straight sets 7-6 6-3.
Lorenzo Musetti vs Aljaz Bedene : Head-to-Head
This will be their first meeting on the tour. So the current head to head stands at 0-0.
Lorenzo Musetti vs Aljaz Bedene : Prediction
In the last round encounter, Musetti had won the first set easily but then a rain enforced break broke his concentration and he ended up losing that set. But, he came back strong in the third set to register a three set win.
Musetti goes to his backhand when in trouble and gets rewarded every time. And it will be tested once again against Bedene who served thirteen aces and converted 82% of first serves to win in 1 hour 48 mins against the fourth seed. This promises to be a tight game, but Musetti might just edge it.
Match Prediction: Lorenzo Musetti will beat Aljaz Bedene in three sets.
