Former World No.1, Andy Murray has struggled with persistent injuries in the past couple of seasons. The Scot, now ranked 134th in the world, has been ruled out for many tournaments over the past few seasons, struggling with poor form even when he has played. However, Murray made a comeback in 2021 and enjoyed an amazing end to the year.
After missing a large chunk of the early season, Murray has played in eight successive tournaments since exiting the US Open. He enjoyed a stellar win over Jannik Sinner at the Stockholm Open to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. He then reached the finals of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, defeating Rafael Nadal in the process, eventually losing to Andrey Rublev in the finals. The veteran is coming into the game after a stunning win against World No. 23 Nikoloz Basilashvili in the previous round.
Meanwhile, David Goffin has not been in the best form in the past few months. The Belgian has faced a couple of early-round exits off late, with the latest one being a first-round exit at Cincinnati Open. Goffin was also defeated in the first round of the French Open 2021. The 27th seed opted out of Wimbledon 2021 and Tokyo Olympics owing to an injury. However, he’d look to perform well in the tournament and is coming off a solid win against Denis Kudla in the previous round.
