This is Brooksby’s first ATP 500 event, but the Californian has shown poise throughout his impressive run. The World No. 130 walked on court to face the Canadian star without a Top 50 win on his resumé, but he emphatically changed that in front of his home crowd after one hour and 25 minutes.

He emerged victorious with a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 scoreline in his favour. Brooksby won three ATP Challenger Tour titles earlier this year, and he has not stopped there. In his first ATP Tour event last month in Newport, he made the final, where only former World No. 5 Kevin Anderson was able to stop him. 

Australia’s John Millman has fought his way through to the quarter-finals of the Citi Open in Washington after an impressive straight-sets win over No.8 seed Reilly Opelka. Millman beat the American 6-3 7-6 (7-4) in a morale-boosting victory with the US Open only a few weeks away.

No.11 seed Millman had to endure 19 aces from Opelka but more importantly converted two of his four break points for the win.

Millman too, however, won an impressive Round of 16 clash against Opelka and will be full of confidence, making this one a tough one to predict.
