Nick Kyrgios vs Mackenzie McDonald: Match Preview

Kyrgios is of course an enigma, he can beat the ATP’s best players but struggles for consistency and focus. He’s played sparingly since the start of the COVID pandemic last year, with a third-round exit at Wimbledon at the hands of Felix Auger Aliassime and a win in the opening round over Kevin Anderson in Atlanta, his most recent match outings. The win over Anderson was a quality result before he fell to Cameron Norrie in the round of 16
McDonald too prefers playing on hard courts, and a run to the fourth round of the Australian Open earlier this year is a testament to that. The American had a decent run on the other surfaces as well, reaching the second round of the French Open as a qualifier and also making the main draw at Wimbledon, after winning all three qualifiers. Overall McDonald comes into the tournament with an 8-9 record this year and 6-6 on hard courts. He has done well at the Challenger level though, winning a hard-court tournament and featuring in the semifinals of one clay and one grass event.
Nick Kyrgios vs Mackenzie McDonald: Head to Head

Nick has never faced Mackenzie and hence this will be the first showdown involving the pair.
Nick Kyrgios vs Mackenzie McDonald: Prediction

Nick comes into the clash having played only 4 events throughout the calendar year so far and has not had a standout result in either of his tournaments, only reaching a highest of a round of 16. Mackenzie will also be favoured by the fact that the match is on a hard court and he will surely cause the flamboyant Nick problems throughout the opening round clash
Prediction: A 3 set win for the Australian
