Tiafoe started off his Washington campaign with a bye after having a somewhat disappointing Olympics campaign. He beat Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea in the first round and proceeded to lose to Greek world number 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second. He has, however, had some good results like reaching the 4th round in Miami before losing to world number 2 Daniil Medvedev.
Jenson has said that he wanted to have as much of an impact in the ATP events as he did in the Challenger events, where has shown amazing performance, winning an event in South Africa, reaching a final in Cleveland, then winning in Tallahassee and Orlando. He also won three qualifying contests at the French Open before falling in the first round to Aslan Karatsev. “I want to prove that I can do the same on the ATP events as I have in the Challenger events,” has been his motto. More importantly, though, having won his second main ATP main draw match ever at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, he went on to reach the final there, the second-youngest player to manage that feat in the history of the event.
