Australian Open 2022: Day 2: Raducanu, Sabalenka, Swiatek sail through round one, Fernandez faces huge upset against Inglis

Australian Open 2022 Day 2 saw some easy wins from the favorites and some tragic upsets as well. Emma Raducanu, Aryna Sabakenka, and Iga Swiatek managed to win their first-round matches and moved into the second round. Whereas, Leylah Fernandez faced a huge upset from the hands of Maddison Inglis in straight sets.
Emma Raducanu wins Debut match at the Australian Open
Emma Raducnau faced a tough opponent in Sloane Stephens for the first round. Although the young brit won the US Open last year, she wasn’t the favorite to win against Stephens.
However, Raducanu overcame all the speculation and won the match in 3-sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-1. Now she will be facing Danka Kovinic in her second-round match this Thursday.
World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka begins her run for the title
Aryna Sabalenka faced Storm Sander in her first-round match. Sabalenka lost the first set and it seemed that another upset was on the cards. But the world No.2 managed to pull the game back by winning the next two sets 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
Sabalenka will be facing Chinese Wang Xinyu in her second-round match on Thursday.
Iga Swiatek gets a comfortable First Round WIN
Iga Swiatek started her Australian Open campaign with a win against Harriet Dart in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. She dominated her opponent and never looked into any trouble during the match.
Swiatek will be facing Rebecca Peterson in round two on Thursday.
Leylah Fernandez BOWS OUT in the first round of the Australian Open 2022
Leylah Fernandez’s loss against Maddison Inglis was one of the biggest upsets in the Australian Open yet. The US Open runner-up last year lost her first-round match against Inglis in straight sets 4-6, 2-6.
Fernandez didn’t have a great run since her loss at the finals of the US Open. But was believed to win her match against Inglis. However, the local girl Inglis managed to win the match in straight sets and will now face Hailey Baptiste in her second-round match.
