Women’s tennis has been very unpredictable over the recent years. We have often seen major upsets in grand slams and some news winners too. But unlike the previous years, despite being the top seed, Ash Barty at the 2022 Oz Open has been flawless so far. She has only dropped 21 games in the tournament. In tennis history, only Serena Williams(2013 US Open and US Open 2012) and Venus Williams(Wimbledon 2009) have dropped fewer games than Barty to reach a major final- speaking volumes of the Aussie’s dominance.

She eased past the likes of Lesia Tsurenko, Lucia Bronzetti, Camilia Giorgi in the initial rounds before beating Amanda Anisimova in the Fourth Round. She then blasted past Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals and then defeated Madison Keys in the semifinal in straight sets 6-1,6-3.

It has been a fairytale run for Danielle Collins at the Australian Open. She was coming into the Oz Open without playing any tune up tournaments and hence not much was know about her game and the off season work she put in.

In this tournament, Collins eased past Caroline Dolehide and Ana Konjuh in the first two roundsand then came back from a set down against Clara Tauson in the third round. She once again had to dig deep in the Round of 16 match against 19th seed Elise Mertens before beating Alize Cornet in the last 8. In the semifinal, she knocked out 7th seed and 2020 French Open champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets 6-4,6-1.

This will be the fifth meeting between the duo. Barty leads the H2H 3-1. They last met Adelaide last year where Collins won in straight sets.

She has been the best player of the tournament by a mile and is looking good to maintain her 100% record in major finals by winning her 3rd grand slam. She is the first Aussie to reach the Australian Open Final in almost 17 years and hence will also have the crowd’s support.

She also has a chance to script history by becoming the first Australian to win the Australian Open in over 40 years! But with so many expectations, Barty will have to be very careful with her nerves. She will have to treat this game like any other and will want to keep serving well.

Collins has started to take her chances in the tournament and has been hitting the ball very hard early on in the rally.
