Last year’s Finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas will head the top half of the draw. Along with all the 16 seeds, he receives a first-round bye and will face either Ilya Ivashka or Pedro Martinez in the second round. He is drawn opposite in form and 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov who will open against either Marcos Giron or Federico Coria. Miami Open champion Carlos Alcaraz finds himself in the top quarter of the draw and will open his Barcelona Open campaign against either Soonwoo Kwon or Benoit Paire. 9th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili will play either Jaune Munar or Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the second round and will possibly face Alcaraz in the third round. The 18-year-old is expected to meet top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal.
4th seed Cameron Norrie will most probably face Adrain Mannarino in the second round and could face Federico Delbonis in the Round of 16 provided Delbonis gets past either Marton Fucsovics or Jordan Thompson in the second round. Meanwhile, Australian Alex de Minaur will play either Pablo Andujar or Ugo Humbert in the second round and could face 17th seeded Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas in the third round. For that, Ramos Vinolas will have to get past either Lloyd Harris or Roberto Carballes Baena in the second round. Norrie is drawn to face de Minaur in the last 8.
1st Semifinal Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz vs Cameron Norrie
Bottom Half
Courtesy of a late wildcard, Felix Auger Aliassime is seeded third in the tournament and will probably face Sebastian Korda in a blockbuster second-round clash. American Frances Tiafoe will most likely face in form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second round with the winner facing either Auger-Aliassime or Korda in the Round of 16. 6th seed Diego Schwartzman will face a qualifier or Mackenzie McDonald in the second round and is drawn opposite Daniel Evans, who will open against either Lorenzo Musetti or Sebastian Baez.
Miami Open finalist and second seed Casper Ruud will open his Barcelona campaign against Brandon Nakashima or a qualifier. He is drawn alongside Alexander Bublik, who will face either Feliciano Lopez or Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round. Meanwhile, 8th seed Pablo Carreno Busta will most probably face Tommy Robredo in the second round and is drawn opposite Lorenzo Sonego, who will open against a qualifier or Maxime Cressy in the second round. Ruud is expected to face Carreno Busta in the last 8.
2nd Semifinal Prediction: Diego Schwartzman vs Casper Ruud
Semifinals
Carlos Alcaraz will face Cameron Norrie in the first semifinal. Both Alcaraz and Norrie have very different game styles and hence will push each other to the limit. Expect a thrilling match with a lot of long baseline exchanges.
Diego Schwartzman will be up against in-form Casper Ruud in the second semifinal. Schwartzman and Ruud are exceptional clay court players and will want to go all the way at Barcelona. Expect a defensive masterclass with Ruud edging past Schwartzman.
Barcelona Open Final: Carlos Alcaraz vs Casper Ruud
Final
18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz will lock horns against Casper Ruud in the final of the 2022 Barcelona Open. Alcaraz has a very aggressive game style while Ruud likes to play the waiting game and hence the encounter is perfectly poised. Expect a thriller with Alcaraz winning his second ATP 500 title of the season.
