Ashleigh Barty reaches her first final at the All-England Club and her 2nd ever Grand Slam final after reaching her previous final at the 2019 French Open which remains her only Grand Slam title so far. Barty went on to defeat former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber 6-3, 7-6(3) in 1 hour and 27 minutes to advance into the finals.
This was Barty’s 5th straight-set victory at Wimbledon this year as she reaches the final dropping only 1-set so far at the Grand Slam having won her 1st round clash in 3-sets. Barty hit 8 aces while Kerber failed to hit even a single ace and had almost lost the 2nd set but staged a superb comeback to finish the match in straight sets.
Karolina Pliskova enters her first-ever Wimbledon final with a thrilling 3-set win in the semi-finals of the Wimbledon 2021. Up against the World No. 4 and the 2nd seeded Aryna Sabalenka, Pliskova found herself a set down going into the third-set and staged a great comeback to win the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 53 minutes.
This was Karolina’s only match when she dropped a set in the tournament, having made it till the semi-finals without dropping a single set in her run at the Grand Slam this year.

This will be their 8th meeting on the tour and the 3rd meeting on Grass. This will also be their 2nd meeting of the year after having clashed in the quarter-finals of the WTA Stuttgart Open 2021. In their previous two matches on Grass, both have won a match each but Barty leads the overall head-to-head tie 5-2.
The finals between Barty and Pliskova is the first matchup of first-time Wimbledon women’s finalists since 1977 (Virginia Wade def. Betty Stove). It last happened in men’s in 2003 (Federer-Philippoussis).

Pliskova will come into the clash with a career Grass record of 58-26 and an overall season record of 21-12. Barty on the other hand will take the court with a career Grass record of 58-16 and is 34-6 for the season across all surfaces.
Both of the players have won some great matches and are certainly worthy of the title. However, it does seem that Barty will be the one lifting the trophy on the 10th of July, 2021 winning her 2nd Grand Slam title and become the 7th new champion at the Wimbledon Championships since 2010.
