Nikoloz Basilashvili came into the Hamburg European Open after a forgettable outing at Wimbledon. Nikoloz was defeated in the very first round of the grass-court Grand Slam by Andy Murray. However, the Georgian tennis star did have a successful Halle Open, where he was knocked out in the semis.
Nikoloz was set to play Argentinian tennis star Sebastian Baez in the first round at the European Open. However, he got a walkover as Baez opted out of the tournament. On the other hand, Laslo Djere has been absolutely sensational in his first two matches at the Hamburg Open.
He defeated seventh-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff in his first match in straight sets and then went on to thrash Thiago Seyboth Wild in a similar fashion. Thiago did stretch Djere in the first set, but Djere kept his cool and after winning the first set in the tie-breaker, he thrashed Thiago in the second set with ease.
Djere also came into Hamburg Open after delivering disappointing performances at Queen’s Championships as well as at Wimbledon. However, after delivering back-to-back impressive performances at the Hamburg Open, Djere will back himself to move further into the tournament.
