Belinda Bencic will be back on Grass since the 2019 Wimbledon where she was defeated in the 3rd round, ending a very good Grass season for the upcoming Swiss star.

She comes to Berlin from the 2021 French Open where she faced a 2nd round defeat ending her poor Clay season for the year. The 24-year old will be looking to make a good start to her Grass season and aim for some good wins before the 2021 Wimbledon begins in a fortnight.

Jule Niemeier enters the main draw after straight-set victories in both of her qualifying rounds at the Berlin Open 2021. This is the debut Grass season for the 21-year old German who steps on Grass for the first time after making her professional debut in 2017.

Jule last played in the semi-finals of the WTA Strasbourg Open 2021 where she made it till the semi-finals losing to eventual winner Barbora Krejcikova, who also won a historic double at the French Open 2021 clinching both the Singles and Women’s Doubles trophies.

Belinda Bencic vs Jule Niemeier : Prediction

Belinda Bencic will be the favourite in her upcoming WTA Berlin Open 2021 clash in the 1st round.
Belinda Bencic

Belinda will enter the tournament with a career Grass record of 49-20 and an overall season record of 12-11. She has maintained a minimum 50% winning ratio in all of her previous 5 Grass season and is regarded as a good player on the surface. However, it will be interesting to see, how she adapts to change in surface as she gets back on Grass after 2 years.

Jule Niemeier has 2 wins under her belt on Grass this season and will be a bit confident coming against the Swiss who will play her first match on the surface. Jule has a season record of 25-9 and given her ranking, she looks in very good form and can cause an upset against what one can expect a bit rustic Belinda. The match can swing either ways, but going by the seeding, Belinda gets the edge.

Prediction: Belinda Bencic to win in 3-sets.
