Elena Rybakina becomes a surprise semi-finalist as she defeats Spaniard and one of the favourites for the medal, Garbine Muguruza. Rybakina won the tie 7-5, 6-1 in 1 hour 33 minutes to register her 4th consecutive straight-set victory at the Olympics this year, where she is playing in for the first time in her career.

Elena was clinical in her approach towards the game holding her serve well throughout the match and presented Garbine a solitary break-point which the Spaniard failed in capitalising on. Elena had 9 break-points opportunities of which she won 3, which eventually turned the match in her favour.
