Benic comes into this round after beating Karolina Muchova in two sets. Although the Czech girl retired in the second set, the Swiss was firmly in control of the match. She also beat Shelby Rogers and Marketa Vondrousova earlier in the tournament. The Tokyo Olympics gold medal winner has found a much needed belief and spark in her game, and will be eyeing a title in Cincinnati this week. The Swiss has won 16 matches on the hard courts this season, and is currently enjoying a nine-match winning streak on the surface. The 24-year-old girl finds herself in a good space currently and that could do the trick for her going forward.

On the other hand, Teichmann comes into this round after shocking top seed Naomi Osaka in three sets. It was a dogged effort by the Swiss girl to dismiss the Japanese champion despite being a set down. She has also beaten Bernarda Pera and Sorona Cirstea earlier in the competition. The 24-year-old will also be participating in her second WTA 1000 quarterfinal of her career. With 13 wins on the hard courts till now for 2021, Teichmann will not be a pushover in the quarters.
