In the women’s singles final, Swiss Belinda Bencic will take on Czech Marketa Vondrousova on Saturday. Bencic was struggling with form throughout the season and didn’t make it deep in the tournaments during the European season. But she has shown amazing grit and resilience this week at Tokyo.
She beat Jessica Pegula and local Misaki Doi in the opening rounds and then came from a set down to win the third round match against French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova. She then earned a hard fought victory against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarterfinal 6-0,3-6,6-3. In the semifinal, she then got the better of Elena Rybakina in three sets 7-6(2),4-6,6-3.
As for her opponent, Marketa Vondrousova, she proved that she isn’t just a clay court player and has an all court game. She got the better of 16th seed Kiki Bertens in the opening round and defeated Mihaela Buzarnescu in the second round. She then pulled off the upset of the tournament in the Round of 16, beating Naomi Osaka in straight sets. In the quarterfinal, she got past Paula Badosa and knocked out 4th seed Elina Svitolina in the semifinals.

However handles the pressure well and dominates on the baseline exchange is expected to win. Bencic way just have an edge.
