Jennifer Brady vs Anastasija Sevastova : Preview
Twenty Six year old Brady put on the best show of her career at this year’s Australian Open. In the Finals though she didn’t stand a chance against the mighty Naomi Osaka and went down in straight 4-6 3-6. Since then the American has not been able to accomplish much. Sometimes one even gets the feeling that she is carrying the weight of expectation, of that Finals result, on her shoulders.
In the clay court leg of the season Brady has been inconsistent. And has managed to win back to back matches only once, in the Madrid Open. The results on the court had strained her relationship with her coach Michael Geserer too, and they too parted ways. Brady will next face Anastasija Sevastova in the first round of the French Open.
Sevastova has been ranked as high as No.11 in the World, and has four WTA Titles to her credit. Her best finish this year has been reaching the Quarterfinals of the Adelaide International and then the Miami Masters. At Miami she beat some impressive names like Coco Gauff, Simona Halep. On clay though she has been erratic to say the least. Her last match was against Karolína Pliskova in the Italian Open and ended in a 2-6 3-6 defeat.
Jennifer Brady vs Anastasija Sevastova : Head to Head
These two players haven’t met on the tour before so the head to head stands at 0-0.
Jennifer Brady vs Anastasija Sevastova : Prediction
Brady is still learning to play her best tennis on clay. She is adjusting and adapting but all this takes time and doesn’t happen in just a few months. Sevastova is facing her own troubles. In her last game against Pliskova at the Italian Open, her weakness on the service return was completely exposed by the tall Czech player. This battle is almost between who is in worse form at the moment and the less worse off will win. Brady will sneak through in this one.
Prediction: Jennifer Brady will beat Anastasija Sevastova in three sets.
