The Brisbane International is finally returning after four years. The last edition of the tournament was played back in 2019, before the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world. It is a pre-Australian Open tournament that players mostly play to prepare for the first Grand Slam of the year.

This time, the Brisbane International will be very special as it will mark the comeback of tennis legend Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard will return to the court after almost a year. He suffered a hip injury during the 2023 Australian Open and had to undergo surgery.

It did not allow him to play for a year and fans are thus extremely excited for his comeback.

As Nadal has not played for a year, his ATP rank has dropped to 672. Thus, it was obvious that he would not be a seeded player in the tournament. Holger Rune, Grigor Dimitrov, Ben Shelton, and Ugo Humbert are the top five seeds in the tournament.

Although Rafael Nadal’s chances in the tournament seem high, as it is an ATP 250 after all, he is returning after a long time, and it is difficult to predict his current form.

Thus, Holger Rune and Grigor Dimitrov remain the favorites to win the 2024 Brisbane International. The tournament will do the work of setting the tone for the upcoming Grand Slam well, though, as fans will get to know whether Nadal is in the shape to compete for the title against the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner.

The tournament will be important for Holger Rune as well. He had to go through a rough phase of his career in the latter half of 2023, as his back pain had a significant impact on his performance.

However, after appointing Boris Becker as his new coach, Rune did well in the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals, where he showed signs of improvement against Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner. Rune needs to win this tournament to gain confidence ahead of the Australian Open.
