Naomi Osaka is a name to reckon with in the world of tennis. Named the second most marketable athlete on the planet by SportsPro, she definitely has become a brand in the last couple of years. However, her form on the tennis court in the recent past hasn’t been as good as she would have wanted.
The Japanese tennis star raised a few eyebrows when she abruptly withdrew from the 2021 French Open. However, the world came in her support when she opened up about her mental health issues. Post her withdrawal from the red clay-court Grand Slam, things have only gone downhill for the champion player.
Can Osaka regain her form at the US Open 2021?
Osaka suffered a moral shattering loss in the third round at the Tokyo Olympics. She was defeated in straight sets by Markéta Vondroušová, and after that, she failed to impress at the Cincinnati Open as well. However, she is now back to the turf which established her at the global level.
Naomi Osaka relishes playing in the US Open. Her 2018 title win made her a superstar after which she never looked back. She will look to regain her glory at the US Open once again. Moreover, Osaka is expected to win her first few matches without much hassle, however, she will face a tough challenge in the Round of 16s.
In the fourth round, Osaka might face a stiff challenge from either sixteenth-seeded Angelique Kerber or Madison Keys. Moreover, it has to be kept in mind that Keys has defeated Osaka 3 times in 4 matches. Moreover, Osaka might face an even tougher challenge in the quarter-finals.
After entering the top 8, Osaka might have to face either Elina Svitolina or Simona Halep. Even if Osaka makes her way into the semis and then into the finals, she would probably have to go past top-seeded Ashleigh Barty or in form Karolina Pliskova to lift the trophy yet again.
Needless to say, Osaka has a very tough task ahead of her. However, it is true that she has done it in the past, on two occasions in fact, and she has the capability to replicate her heroics.
