Kim Clijsters, the former world number 1 in both singles and doubles has made an important announcement on her Instagram page. She came from Belgium, a very underrepresented country in tennis, and became the first world number 1 from the country. She along with Justine Heine made Belgium a force to be reckoned with. Clijsters has an astounding 41 career titles including 4 Grand Slams, three of which are the US Open.

Clijsters became world number 1 in 2003, in both singles and doubles ranking list. Clijsters went on to become one of the legendary players in women’s tennis. There were quite a lot of gaps in her career including the injuries, even an abrupt retirement in 2007. She then took a two-year hiatus and returned back in the 2009-10 season. It was the beginning of the second phase of her career. It was the perfect resurgence as she won back-to-back US Open titles. She had an amazing 2nd run and was officially retired in 2012.

She came back in the 2020-21 season for Dubai Tennis Championships as a wild card but lost in the first round in straight sets.
