Second seed Pablo Carreno Busta didn’t have a great North American swing. After winning the German Open post Wimbledon, Carreno Busta lost in the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters to Daniil Medvedev and followed it up with another last 8 exit to Ilya Ivashka at Winston-Salem despite being the top seed. He also won the bronze medal at Tokyo Olympics, beatinh Novak Djokovic.

He then bowed out of the first round of US Open to Maxime Cressy in five sets. This week, he received a first round bye.

As for his opponent, Mikael Ymer, he has been blowing hot and cold off late.
