World No.2 Daniil Medvedev storms into his second US Open final with a convincing win over 12th seed Felix Auger Aliassime in the semifinal of the 2021 US Open. Medvedev beat the young Canadian in straight sets 6-4,7-5,6-2 to reach his second grand slam final of the season. Earlier this year, he also made it to the final of the Australian Open.

Medvedev has been one of the most consistent players this season and has especially dominated the hard courts. He has won 4 titles this season so far and also reached the final of the Australian Open. Most recently, he won the Toronto Masters and reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters.

So far in the US Open, he has beaten the likes of Richard Gasquet, Pablo Andujar, Dan Evans and has only dropped one set. He had started well in every one of his matches and did the same against Felix. He dictated the pace from the baseline and was serving in the right areas. The Canadian struggled to match Medvedev’s pace but somehow held serve early on. But the Russian’s experience paved in as he got a decisive break and sneaked away with the opening set 6-4.

Felix was much more calm and disciplined in the second set. He took charge of the rallies and was hitting winners on Medvedev’s forehand. He took a break’s lead and served for the set at 5-3. But a poor serving game where he had multiple set points but missed an easy volley saw him hand the break back to Medvedev. The Russian got into Felix’s mind as he won 14 of the next 16 points to wrap up the set 7-5.

The third set had Medvedev painted all over it as Medvedev completely dominated his serve and Felix didn’t have a plan for his groundstrokes. He got broken twice and without breaking much sweat, Medvedev cruised away with the set 6-2 to reach his second US Open final in 3 years.
