It’s tough to beat me when I am at my best: Daniil Medvedev storms into the fourth round of US Open 2021

Daniil Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev, second seed at US Open 2021, stormed into the quarterfinals on Sunday. The Russian outclassed the Briton, Dan Evans in the fourth round encounter, defeating him in straight sets. This is Medvedev’s fourth straight sets victory, as he is yet to drop a set so far.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Daniil Medvedev was delighted to have earned a victory over Dan Evans, whom he believes has been a consistent performer over the years. “He’s top player for many years already, so I knew I had to keep my focus from start to finish. I was serving good. I was trying to change up the game, mix up the game, and I’m really happy that I beat such tough opponent with that score and with that much energy left, I would say,” said Medvedev.
The Russian stated that he was feeling great before heading into the second week of the action. “So, yeah, and feeling great before the second week. Feeling great with my tennis, my mental, my physical. Just looking forward,” he added.
I want to win every tournament: Daniil Medvedev
Daniil Medvedev was disappointed after losing in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2021 to the Pole, Hubert Hurkacz. After losing in the last 16, the Russian had said that for a player ranked second in the world, it is never enough to get knocked out so early.
“In Wimbledon, I was honest, I lost against a great player, Hubert is playing great. I think he’s on the rise. He’s going to be even better ranked and maybe he’s gonna go further in slams. He beat Roger after me,” said the Russian.
“But again, I was not talking about match itself where the loss was okay, I would say. I was talking about the result in general, and fourth round is not enough for No. 2 in the world, especially I like grass more than clay, so maybe on clay I would not say this (smiling),” he added.
Daniil Medvedev lost in the finals of Australian Open 2021 to the top seed, Novak Djokovic in straight sets. The world number two believes that his experience of losing in the finals will help him perform better this time around, if he comes up against the Serbian one more time.
“Again, for example, I lost against Novak in Australian Open final. If I will have one more Grand Slam final against him, will I do better? We don’t know. Will I try to do better with experience I had? For sure,” the Russian continued.
“That’s what’s different. Again, I try to learn every time something good or bad happens. Sometimes I succeed, achieve. Sometimes not. So, yeah, if you ask me what’s better: Experience,” he added.
