Bianca Andreescu
2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has been out of action for quite some time now. The 21-year-old, who rose to fame after beating the legendary Serena Williams in the 2019 US Open final, has not played any matches since the August of 2021 due to injury. On what was looking like a very promising career post that fortuitous night, the Canadian star has failed to kick on mainly due to recurring injuries.
Despite her disastrous 2021, Andreescu is still the highest-rated Canadian player and the only Canadian player to win a Grand Slam title and is still a bona fide superstar in her country.

Despite taking some time off from the sport in order to recover, Bianca Andreescu is still pretty much following the events around the tennis world. The 21-year-old recently expressed her delight at the return of the Odlum Brown VanOpen in Canada.
In a video posted on the event’s social media pages, Andreescu shared her delight and experiment on the new WTA event in Canada. The Canadian superstar said that she believes that having another WTA tournament of this caliber in Canada would definitely help in increasing the profile of women’s tennis in the country.
“I’m very excited that the Odlum Brown VanOpen is returning and has earned the designation of a WTA 125 event, another tournament of this caliber in Canada definitely helps increase the profile of women’s tennis in our country,” Andreescu said in the video.
The Odlum Brown VanOpen returns to Canada after almost two years, this time combined as an ATP Challenger 125 event and a WTA 125 event. The tournament is set to begin on 14th August.
Since the tournament is quite far off, for now, we might even get to see Andreescu herself competing at the tournament and making a comeback. It would undoubtedly be a special feeling to return to action in her own country after such a lengthy layoff and a tough spell in her career.
