Without a doubt, Novak Djokovic has been the best player this season. The Serbian machine won the Australian Open at the start of the season and had an exceptional clay court season, where he defeated the Rafael Nadal enroute his second triumph at Roland Garros. He was virtually unchallenged and won his 20th major at Wimbledon and was just a match away from completing a historic calendar slam at Flushing Meadows where he lost to Daniil Medvedev.

Coming into the ATP Finals, he won the Paris Masters a week ago where he avenged his US Open final loss to Daniil Medvedev in the Bercy final.

Casper Ruud too has been one of the most consistent players this season. He is tied with Djokovic and Zverev for the most titles won this season-5. He won three consecutive titles- the Swedish Open, the Swiss Open and the Austrian Open after bowing out in the first round at Wimbledon. He then reached the quarterfinals at both Toronto and Cincinnati Masters. After a poor outing at the US Open, he won the San Diego Open beating Cameron Norrie in the final. He also made it to the quarterfinal at Vienna and Bercy.

This will be their second meeting. Djokovic leads the H2H 1-0. They last met last year at Rome where Djokovic won in straight sets.

Given his current form, Djokovic will start favorite in every match he plays. He’s the tournament favorite and will want to start his campaign on a positive note. As for Ruud, he was considered more of a clay court player but he’s shown in recent months that he is an all-court player. Having said that, the extremely fast courts of Turin will suite Djokovic and he is expected to win comfortably.
