Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Preview

Novak Djokovic

The French Open 2021 lived upto its expectation and now, it’s time for the final showdown between Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Djokovic is coming off a historic win against 13-time champion Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. He became the only player to defeat Nadal at Roland Garros twice and handed the ‘King of Clay’ only his third defeat at the French Open.

Apart from Nadal, he has fought every challenge thrown at him throughout the fortnight and deserves to play the final where he will be aiming to become only the second player after Rod Laver to win all the Majors atleast 2 times.

To stop him will be Stefanos Tsitsipas, who will be playing his first grand slam final. The fifth seed is the most successful player on Clay this season and would want to create history by becoming the first Greek to win a grand slam. He is coming off an emphatic victory over Alexander Zverev in the semifinal and also beat second seed Daniil Medvedev in the Last 8.

The match promises to be an exciting one. Djokovic will be high on confidence after knocking out the ‘King of Clay’ and will fancy his chances for his 19th grand slam. On the contrary, Tsitsipas blew hot and cold in his semifinal but raised his game when it was needed the most. His game on Clay is always dangerous and Djokovic will be wary of that.

Again, Tsitsipas’ defense will be the key in the match as Djokovic won’t give away free points. Expect an excellent match of tennis, with Djokovic winning the French Open for the second time.

Prediction: Djokovic to win in four sets and lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires.
