British teenager Emma Raducanu has turned several heads in the tennis fraternity after her heroics at the 2021 US Open. The youngster beat Tokyo Games gold medalist, Belinda Bencic in straight sets to book her place in the semifinals in New York.

Along with Canadian youngster, Leylah Fernandez, Raducanu has been the most impressive player in the women’s section at this year’s US Open. In the process, the 18-year-old has become the first qualifier in the women’s game to reach the last four at the Flushing Meadows.

Moreover, this is Raducanu’s third Grand Slam appearance. Yet she has become only the third woman ever ranked outside the top 100 to reach a US Open semi. Currently, ranked 150 in the world, the Canadian born Raducanu is certain to enter the world’s top 50 and also become the top-ranked player of Great Britain.

Speaking to the media after her thrilling win over the Swiss girl, an excited Raducanu said, “I’m just really enjoying the experience. Out there on the court today, I was saying to myself: ‘This could be the last time you play on Ashe, so might as well just go for it and enjoy everything. I didn’t compete for 18 months, but here I am, and it just shows that if you believe in yourself, then anything is possible.”

Raducanu yet to drop in New York

The confidence and calm exuded by the teenager has been impeccable at the final Grand Slam of the year. Such has been her dominance at this year’s US Open, that Raducanu is yet to drop a set in her eight matches, (including qualifiers) at the Flushing Meadows.

Raducanu will now take on Greece tennis player Maria Sakkari in the semifinals. Both players will be locking horns for the first time on the tour. Regardless of what happens from hereon, the British girl is guaranteed to earn a prize money of $675,000 for making the final four.
