Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu at the age of 19 has been able to grab the British No.1 spot and is sticking with it. The youngster faced her first defeat in a full-match at a grand slam last Thursday.
She has participated in three grand slams and has won 11 out of her 13 games at grand slams. ITF chief David Haggerty said that Raducanu could play a similar role to how the William sister did in transforming women’s tennis in America.
Emma Raducanu could revolutionize Women’s Tennis

Emma Raducanu winning the US Open was a revolutionary moment in itself. The 19-year-old was the first player to win a grand slam title after playing the qualifiers in the Open Era.
Moreover, her win wasn’t only a great personal achievement but it was also a win that would help transform Women’s tennis in the United Kingdom. Her win could very well inspire young girls to participate in tennis.
The ITF chief David Haggerty in a recent interview said that Raducanu has the potential to play a similar role to how Venus and Serena Williams did in the transformation of women’s tennis in the USA.
Both the William sisters have been former world No.1’s and have won 30 grand slams between them. They have single-handedly revolutionized women’s tennis by dominating the world arena. Apart from that their achievements have also inspired thousands of young girls in America to play tennis.
According to Haggerty, this could be the case with Raducanu as well. He said, “If Raducanu can build on the fantastic start to her tennis journey, why can’t her impact at Wimbledon and for Great Britain be similar? I think it’s really important for British tennis to have its star players perform at Wimbledon.”
We have in many cases that an achievement made by a player or a team in a particular sport helps transform the sport for the upcoming players as well as the viewers. Be it Novak Djokovic and Tennis in Serbia or India and the 1983 cricket world cup win, one’s achievement can help revolutionize a sport. Raducanu could prove to be a great prospect for revolutionizing women’s tennis in Great Britain.
