World No. 13 Emma Raducanu‘s struggles continue on the Tour as she exits yet another tournament without a good run. Up against World No. 55 Katerina Siniakova in the first round of the 2022 Miami Open, Raducau lost the match 6-3, 4-6, 5-7 going out in yet another 3-set battle which she is failing to win despite putting in big shifts.

Emma was a break up and also was serving for the match but she failed to be clinical and had to end up on the losing side in her debut at the Miami Open. With a string of poor results since she won the 2021 US Open where she won all 10 of her matches including the qualifiers in straight-sets, Emma has been watched closely and her defeats have seen her get a lot of criticism as well ignoring the fact that she is playing in just her first full season.

“That was a tough one for Emma. I think it is going to hurt big time because of the chances she had. She was the better player for most of it. Siniakova is a great fighter and she showed why she has won all the big titles in doubles – she is not afraid of the big names. But the thing is now with Emma, everyone wants to beat her. Everyone is trying to figure out how to play against her.

“All the locker room respect she had after the US Open is now kind of going away which is a shame. It is going to be important now for Emma to regroup, rethink what she has to change and get out there on the practice court. There is no other way around it. Just keep putting the hard work in. At that age, you want to be fit, you want to show everyone that you are out there, no matter how long it takes,” said 4-time Grand Slam champion Daniela Hantuchova.

Emma has played 7 matches this season and has registered a win in only 2 of them, her first win of the season coming in the first round of the 2022 Australian Open while her second win came at the 2022 Indian Wells Open. She is 2-5 for the season so far. Post the US Open in the 2021 season, she won only two matches from the 5 she played, to take her record to 4-8 since winning the major in New York.

With a Clay debut next for the British teenager, things might get worse for her further as she has little experience of playing on the Clay and more importantly with the poor form she is currently in, her confidence can also be assumed to be low. However, Emma has turned up always unexpectedly so one can never be sure what the Brit brings in her bag during the Golden Swing of the Tour.
