Emma Raducanu made a shocking 2nd round exit at the 2021 Indian Wells much to the disappointment of many tennis fans who were expecting another brilliant run from the 18-year old Brit who was playing her first tournament since her historic run at the 2021 US Open, becoming the first tennis player in history to win a major as a qualifier.
While many could say that this was bound to happen as it was just the 3rd tournament on the WTA Tour for the youngster, many expected her to continue her fine momentum which helped her claim the Grand Slam in New York without dropping a single set throughout her 10-match run. Emma was however optimistic about her defeat and said it was a learning experience and winning on Tour is not easy.
While Emma did have a good team with her in New York, her contract with her coach Andrew Richardson was set to expire after the Grand Slam and to the shock of many, the teen champion did not extend the contract ending their partnership. She was helped temporarily by Jeremy Bates, but because of his prior commitments, he would have left her had she qualified for the 3rd round.
Having played the WTA-1000 event without a coach, Emma is in desperate need of a coach and she made a public appeal rightly after her exit from the tournament. “If any experienced coaches are out there looking, you know where to find me. I’m not joking, if anyone knows any experienced coaches,” said Emma during her press meeting after her loss.
“I don’t know what’s going on” says Emma Raducanu on her coach situation
Emma is looking for a new coach for the 2nd time in the past 4 months. She was being coached by Nigel Sears during her 4th round run at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships which brought her into the limelight. She however parted ways with him and was working with Andrew Richardson who mutually parted ways with her after the US Open in September this year.
“They definitely played a huge part in New York and I’m still looking forward to continue working with Will (her physio) in the future. I’ve told you guys, I’m looking for someone more experienced and I decided to, we decided to end it at the end of the US Open,” said Emma speaking about why she split with Richardson.
“I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what’s going to happen next. But I’m sure that my team and everyone will be able to try and find a solution,” added Emma to put the meter to bed about her split with Richardson and who will be her next coach.
Emma will now be travelling to Russia for the 2021 Kremlin Cup as she continues her battle to grab one of the remaining four spots in the 2021 WTA Finals.
