Emma Raducanu stunned the tennis world by becoming the first qualifier in the history of the sport to win a grand slam at Flushing Meadows last fortnight. Such was her dominance on court, that she won the major without dropping a set and beat the very best in the world.

To reflect what she’s achieved, she started the year as World No.345 and was ranked No.150 in the world before the US Open. And after becoming the champion, she has broken into the Top 25 of the world and is the new No.23- a 117 place jump!

In an interview with Amazon Prime video, when the interviewer was speaking about her becoming the new No.23, Emma was shocked and said with a big smile on her face, “Wow! I didn’t know that! That’s insane!”

The interviewer replied, “Ah, okay, well, you’re world no. 23 – what do you make of that then? And what happens next for you because you’re going to get automatic entry into tournaments aren’t you?”

The teenager continued: “Yeah! No idea that’s what my ranking went to! Three months ago I was in an exam hall so… it’s incredible.”

Raducanu said that her team joked about a three week stay in New York and to her surprise, it has now become a reality. “We were joking about making it a three-week stay here but it actually happened and I think the key to that has just been really focusing on one point at a time,” she said.

She emphasized an her staying in the moment during her matches for which, she’s proud of herself.

“I haven’t got ahead of myself in any moment in any of the matches, so that’s something that I’m very proud of and I managed to stay extremely focused and it managed to get me the title.”
