Prior to coming to New York for the US Open 2021, 2nd Grand Slam of her career, 18-year old Emma Raducanu had won a total of $303,000 in career prize money on different ITF tournaments she played since turning Pro in 2018 and also by playing at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
On Saturday, as the winner of the US Open 2021 Women’s Singles, Emma walked away with a massive check of $2.5m, which is nearly 8 times what she had won so far. With such big prize money on her way, there were many questions for Emma on what will be her first purchase after winning the Grand Slam which will further bring her endorsement and brand deals.
Putting all those questions to the bed, the teenager disclosed what would be her first purchase from the prize money. Minutes prior to her finals, Emma reportedly misplaced and lost her Airpods and was unable to find them. “If I win my match today, I can buy a new set of AirPods,” Emma said to a personnel from ESPN.

Emma who currently has deals with Nike for her clothing and shoes while her racquet and other equipment are sponsored by Wilson Racquets, can expect many more offers to come her way after her success at the US Open and also at the Wimbledon. Emma tumbled many records after victory in the finals and became a global star over the course of the US Open.
“Emma’s age, she’s Generation Z, her dual heritage, her growing profile and the global platform she’s on means big things are ahead for her,” said Simon Chadwick from the Emlyon Business School. Emma’s diversified heritage of a Romanian father and Chinese mother can help target a wider audience as far as her marketability is concerned.
While the Airpods might well be her first purchase, but her fans will be eager to see how does she manage the fame and different rewards after becoming a Grand Slam winner at such a young age.
