Emma Raducanu made the headlines at Wimbledon 2021, following her incredible fourth round run at her home slam. The 18-year-old has proved that her run at Wimbledon was no fluke, as she stormed into the third round of US Open 2021.

The Briton defeated Shuai Zhang of China in straight sets to sail into the third round. She dropped just six games in the entire match, as she dominated her opponent right from the onset. Raducanu has won five matches at US Open 2021 so far, after she won three qualifying round matches to make it to the main draw.

The British teenager believes that her confidence is growing after every match, and she has certainly come a long way. “I’ve had five matches here in New York so I feel very comfortable with the conditions and the courts,” said Raducanu.

“I’m getting more and more used to it and each round I feel I’m going for my shots more and today I think that was evident. I think I’ve come a very long way since my first qualifying match here but also since the first tournament of this trip five weeks ago,” she added.

Emma Raducanu believes that playing at the tour level for five consecutive weeks has helped her build her confidence. She also reached the finals of the Chicago Challenger, where she lost to the Dane, Clara Tauson.

Playing at the tour level for so many weeks in a row definitely builds your confidence and I’ve been fortunate enough to win quite a few matches,” she added.

The 18 year old was leading 4-0 in the second set, and was cruising towards a victory. However, Shuai Zhang won three consecutive games, and put the youngster under pressure. She stated that she was not bothered by the comeback, as the Chinese was an experienced player and was always going to come hard at her.

It didn’t really bother me that she came back because I knew that she’s a great player, she’s extremely experienced, she’s going to throw everything she had at me. So, I’m just very proud of myself for overcoming that and managing to close it out at the end,” the Briton continued.
