Currently ranked World No. 12, Emma Raducanu continues to find consistency on the Tour with another disappointing result. Playing at the WTA-250 Guadalajara Open 2022, Emma had to retire due to a hip injury in the first round itself playing against Daria Saville. The two players had already played the longest WTA match of the season before Emma was forced to withdraw.

In what was just her 3rd tournament of the season, it has been a poor start to the season for the young Brit who shocked the world when she won the 2021 US Open starting as a qualifier. With many expecting her to continue the form and success on the Tour as well, life on the Tour has not been kind for the 19-year old who is now 3-6 since she won the Grand Slam in New York.

“I still can’t get over the fact of where she has come from and where she is now and how quickly it has all happened. Now those of us in the game are saying hold your horses. You are unlikely to see her winning another Grand Slam any time soon. She is going to need two or three years to build into being a regular WTA tour player,” said former British No. 1 Andrew Castle as reported by Tennisuptodate.

“It’s just a question of waiting” Andrew Castle on Emma Raducanu

While Castle talked about the difficulty Emma will have in winning a Major anytime soon, he stressed the point that she is just starting on the Tour and having won the Grand Slam, she has shown the talent and potential she has and if she continues her hard work, she isn’t far from winning more.

“I know she won the US Open without losing a set, 10 matches, coming through qualifying and it is remarkable. That was an illustration of talent and it was almost an aberration, some madness that she went ahead and won that. So to ask people to be patient now, I don’t think they really understand.

“So people will write her off if she goes out in the first or second round of events and that’s what she will do. That is life on tour, even the world number one loses matches. It’s just a question of waiting and allowing her to gain and gather experience,” added Castle further.

Emma’s participation in the coming events is now doubtful with the teenager already withdrawing her name for the 2022 Monterrey Open that is scheduled between 28th February and 6th March. With the 2022 Indian Wells Open set to begin on 10th March, Emma might have made the decision to rest instead of playing in Monterrey and be ready for Indian Wells. As of now, she is set to play in the Californian desert.
