“The day has finally arrived”: Eugenie Bouchard hits the court for the first time since injury

Eugenie Bouchard

Eugenie Bouchard had a traumatic 2021, in which she didn’t play any tennis due to injury. She underwent a season ending surgery in June. The decision to go under surgery was taken after the former world number 5 suffered a torn subscapularis in her right shoulder in March.

The Canadian revealed that she was very scared to go under the knife as she had never been under anaesthesia prior to it. She also conceded that she was very frightened and freaked out prior to the surgery. Hilariously, she also said that her mom took funny videos of her during that period.

However, despite her fears, everything went to plan in the end with the surgery being successful, finally something positive in the past few years where she has consistently battled with injuries. Now ranked 250 in the world, the Canadian would look forward to finally play some tennis in the upcoming year.

Eugenie Bouchard uploaded a video of her practice on court on her Instagram. The caption for the post read “ The first ball I hit in 8 months!! The day has finally arrived! I can’t believe it!” This would be good news for her fans after the positive update.

Previously, she had posted a positive update regarding her successful surgery on her Instagram story in October. The story read:

“I saw the doctor last week and everything is on track and is going well, but he wants me to strengthen my shoulder a little bit more before I get back on court”

The Canadian would be relieved to finally hit the court and play some tennis, as she has been bugged by serious injuries in the past few years. Once ranked number 5 in world, Bouchard is currently ranked 250th. This fall from grace has largely happened due to her persistent injuries and large periods of inactivity in the tennis circuit.

Now back on court, she is targeting to return to competitive tennis at the Rome Masters next year. The last time she played competitive tennis was at the Monterrey Open in March.
