Jannik Sinner‘s doping case has been generating headline after headline in the past 24 hours. The Italian tested positive twice for a banned substance, but the ATP chose not to ban him.
This decision has sparked outrage from many players and fans in the tennis community. However, some fans believe that these recent developments have negatively impacted Novak Djokovic‘s ranking position.
Sinner was unable to defend his title at the National Bank Open two weeks ago, causing his points to drop to 8,760. Djokovic was sitting closely behind with 8,460 points. Due to Sinner’s doping case, he lost the 400 points he earned at Indian Wells. As a result, his points would have been 8,360, allowing Djokovic to overtake the 23-year-old for at least one more week.
Tennis fans bash ATP for denying Novak Djokovic’s No.1 ranking for Jannik Sinner
The storylines surrounding Jannik Sinner‘s doping case continue to gain attention. With the recent controversy regarding Novak Djokovic‘s ranking status, Nole fans have taken to social media, criticizing the ATP.

One fan declared the situation a ‘shame’ from the ATP part. Djokovic already has the record for most weeks at World No.1 (428).
Here are some more fan reactions to this situation:
Sinner overtook Djokovic as the new World No. 1 in June after the Serbian withdrew from his Roland Garros quarterfinal due to a torn meniscus. Despite not being at 100%, Sinner has maintained his ranking ever since.
Although Djokovic secured the historic Olympic singles gold medal in Paris, it did not contribute to his ATP ranking points. Furthermore, his decision to withdraw from the Canadian Open and Cincinnati proved detrimental to his pursuit of the World No. 1 ranking.
Now, Djokovic heads to the US Open, where he is the defending champion. Despite the deducted points, Sinner still holds an advantage in maintaining his No. 1 ranking, as he doesn’t have many points to defend at Flushing Meadows.
