Novak Djokovic is preparing for his pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam title at this year’s US Open. This will be his 19th appearance in the main draw at Flushing Meadows, where he has won the title four times. Although he reached the final twice in his last three attempts, he suffered an early exit in 2024, losing to Alexei Popyrin in the third round.

So far in 2025, Djokovic has reached the semi-finals in all three Grand Slams. He plans to step up his US Open preparations by competing in the Cincinnati Masters. After missing the National Bank Open and the Cincinnati Open, he will play the US Open without any warmup event.

Djokovic’s sponsors have traditionally provided him with colorful outfits for major tournaments. Over the years, he has often worn combinations of blue, red, and white at the US Open. For this year’s edition, however, Lacoste and ASICS have designed an all-black outfit, marking a shift from his usual look.

The new kit includes a black polo shirt, matching shorts, and the COURT FF 3 NOVAK NIGHT ENERGY shoes by ASICS. Gold details add a bold contrast to the outfit. While the shirt is not yet available for purchase, the shoes are on sale for $190 on ASICS’s U.S. website. A black tracksuit will complete his off-court look, and a promotional image of Djokovic wearing the outfit has surfaced online.

Tennis fans accuse Novak Djokovic for copying Roger Federer

While many supporters praised Novak Djokovic‘s new outfit, others viewed it differently. Some fans suggested that the Serbian star was imitating Roger Federer‘s past style choices.

Federer famously wore an all-black outfit during the night sessions at the 2007 US Open. That year, he claimed his fourth title in New York by defeating Djokovic in straight sets in the final.

Rafael Nadal has also sported black gear at the US Open. He wore a similar outfit during the 2010 tournament. In that edition, Nadal defeated Djokovic in the final. It was his first US Open title, completing his career Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic withdraws from the Cincinnati Open

24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is uncertain for the upcoming US Open after withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open. He pulled out of the tournament, where he has previously won three times, for reasons unrelated to injury. This means he will enter the US Open without any singles match practice on North American hard courts.

Djokovic’s last singles match was at Wimbledon, where he lost in straight sets in the semi-finals to eventual champion Jannik Sinner. Despite the defeat, the Serbian star is expected to compete in the US Open, which starts on August 24. Before that, he is set to take part in the Mixed Doubles event on August 19-20 with fellow Serbian Olga Danilovic.

At 38, Djokovic has shifted his focus towards Grand Slams rather than the ATP Masters events. He has remained competitive throughout the year, reaching the semi-finals in all three majors so far. However, after the Wimbledon loss, he acknowledged that beating top players like Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is becoming more difficult.

Earlier this year, Djokovic claimed his 100th tour-level title at the Geneva Open, shortly after ending his partnership with coach Andy Murray. He is currently ranked world No.6 and continues to chase a historic 25th Grand Slam title, which would break Margaret Court’s long-standing record.
