Roger Federer’s return post his double knee surgery hasn’t been a fairytale in particular. He lost in early rounds at Doha and Geneva before pulling out of the French Open after his third round match. He lost in the second round at Halle too and has struggled to find momentum.
In the first round at Wimbledon, he survived a potential shock from Adrian Mannarino as the Frenchman retired after the fourth set due to a knee injury he developed in the match.
As for his opponent, Richard Gasquet is also a veteran like Federer and has all the experience in the world. His unorthodox serve style gives him an edge on grass. Although he isn’t in his prime, but has shown some amazing results lately. He lost to Rafael Nadal in the second round at French Open and made it to the quarterfinals of the Nottingham Challenger.
