Fabio Fognini vs Marton Fucsovics: Preview

The Italian is coming into this event with hardly any positive results behind his back. After making the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, where he was the defending champion, he has gone off the boil in the following tournaments. First and second round exits have been the norm for Fognini in the run-up to Roland Garros. He did beat in Gregoire Barrere in straight sets in the first round in Paris, but still appears far from his best. The 34-year-old is a former quarterfinalist at the French Open.
On the other hand, the Hungarian has visibly struggled to adapt and get results going his way on the clay in 2021. A juggernaut of first-second round results have proved to be his impediment this season. Although he beat veteran Gilles Simon comfortably in the opening round, not much is expect from the 29-year-old going ahead this week in Paris.
Fabio Fognini vs Marton Fucsovics: Head to Head

The two players have met three times on the tour, with the Italian leading 2-1. Their last meeting was at Wimbledon in 2019, where Fognini once again prevailed in five sets. Interestingly, they have never met on the clay.
Fabio Fognini vs Marton Fucsovics: Prediction

While Fucsovics is not known to be very comfortable on the clay, Fognini has strangely been out of sorts on his favourite surface. That said, this contest might go in the direction of the Italian. Given his experience and his flashes of brilliance, Fognini should come through. Their recent run and first ever meeting on the dirt could make this match an interesting one. A four or five-setter is almost a given.
Match Prediction: Fabio Fognini should win in four sets.
