Iga Swiatek vs Kaja Juvan: Preview

Defending Champion Iga Swiatek will start her title defence against Kaja Juvan on Sunday. She is the most dominant force in women’s circuit on Clay after World No.1 Ash Barty. She has just lost one match on Clay since winning the 2020 French Open.

In Madrid, she lost to Ash Barty in the quarterfinals, her only loss on Clay this season. Two weeks back in Rome, she double bageled Karolina Pliskova in the final to win her first WTA 1000 title and hence will carry a lot of momentum in Paris.

As for her opponent Kaja Juvan, she has been in terrible form this Clay season. She couldn’t get past the qualifiers of the Madrid Open and lost in the first round of the ITF Spain 12A tournament. Again, she lost in the opening round of the Serbia Open to Yulia Putintseva.

This will be the second meeting between the duo. Swiatek leads the H2H 1-0. She won their only meeting earlier this year at the Gippsland Trophy in three sets.

Iga Swiatek vs Kaja Juvan: Prediction

Iga Swiatek will be the overwhelming favorite to win the match. The Pole has been in amazing form this season and will hope to wrap things quickly against Juvan. But one thing that goes in Juvan’s favor is her previous meeting against Swiatek where she troubled the Pole and even took a set from her.

Having said that, Swiatek will be wary of Juvan and won’t take her lightly. Expect the defending champion to cruise into the second round.

Prediction: Swiatek to win in straight sets.
