FFT president wishes Naomi Osaka a ‘speedy recovery’, ironically doesn’t take questions from media in the press conference

4-time grand slam Champion, Naomi Osaka took to twitter to announce that she has officially withdrawn from the ongoing French Open courtesy a series of backlashes from on tour and former players.

The decision bought a lot of controversy around Osaka and also around the Tennis structure and how they operate. FFT President, Gilles Moretton come out for a press conference regarding Osaka’s withdrawal. But ironically, he just read a written statement and refused to take questions from the media.

He said: “The outcome of Naomi withdrawing from Roland Garros is unfortunate. We wish her the best and the quickest possible recovery, and we look forward to having Naomi in our tournament next year…”

Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open citing mental health

Earlier in the day, Naomi Osaka took to twitter to announce that she will be withdrawing from the French Open. Hust before the start of the tournament, she decided not to attend any press conferences because the journalists at times troubled her and hence it was not good for her mental health. Following her decision, she received a lot of backlash from current as well as former players.

Naomi also wrote in her letter that she will be back on court whenever she is feeling mentally better. And that she has been suffering from depression since the 2018 US Open.

Her decision has shook the tennis world and fans all around the world. Whether her decision was right or wrong is a thing to debate but one thing is certain, this decision will force the tennis bodies to reconsider the current state of affairs.
