Gael Monfils trains with fiancee Elina Svitolina in Rome, says she is an inspiration to him

Star couple, Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina have been in the limelight ever since they announced their engagement last month. The news came as a surprise to fans all around the world as the couple announced they are taking ‘a break’ a few days back. The couple, who were dating on and off for a few years were engaged amidst the Swiss Alps.
This week, they are competing in the Italian Open at Rome and were spotted several times at the Foro Italico during the media day. In an interview, Monfils spoke about his fiancee. He revealed that he in inspired by Svitolina, who is also the World No.5 in the WTA Rankings. He admitted that she is a better player than her and works very hard.
He said: “She[Svitolina] is a champion. She is a much better player than me, constantly wins big titles, works hard. She is an inspiration for me.”
Monfils and Svitolina continue to train in rain
Gael Monfils was knocked out in the first round of the Rome Masters. He went down fighting in three sets 4-6,7-5,4-6 to local Lorenzo Sonego. Monfils will be back in action at the Lyon Open next week where he is seeded fourth. As for Svitolina, she is having an awesome tournament so far.
She has made it to the quarter-finals in Rome and has defeated some quality opponents in Amanda Anisimova and Garbine Muguruza. Ahead of her quarter-final encounter, she was seen practicing with Monfils. The interesting part was that despite heavy rains in Rome, the pair didn’t stop their training.
Svitolina was scheduled to play Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final on Friday but due to rain, play was cancelled at Foro Italico. The two will hit the court on Saturday morning and the winner will take on Coco Gauff in the semi-final.
