The Geneva Open is set to return after missing out last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The tournament will also mark the return of home favorite Roger Federer, who goes in as the top seed.

Men’s Singles Draw Analysis and Prediction
Top Half
The top half of the draw will be headlined by 20-time grand slam champion, Roger Federer who will play his second tournament of the year. This will be Federer’s first tournament on Clay since Roland Garros 2019.
The local hero has been handed a first round bye and will face the winner of Jordan Thompson vs Pablo Andujar in the Round of 16. He could potentially face 5th seed Cristian Garin in the quarter-final. Garin will face in form Marton Fucsovics in the opening round and could face Marin Cilic in the Round of 16.
In form Casper Ruud has also drawn in the top half and could meet Federer in the semi-finals. Ruud has also received a first round bye and will face the winner of Sandgren vs Caruso in the Round of 16. He could possibly face 7th seed Benoit Paire in the quarter-finals. Paire will battle it out against Dominik Koepfer in the first round and could face veteran Feliciano Lopez in the Round of 16.

Bottom Half
Young Canadian Denis Shapovalov will headline the bottom half of the draw in Geneva. Meanwhile Grigor Dimitrov accepted a wild card entry and is seeded 4th. According to the seeding, the two could face off in the semi-final.
Shapovalov could possibly face Italian Stefano Travaglia in the Round of 16. The Canadian is drawn alongside Fabio Fognini who will face Argentine Guido Pella in the first round. Other top names in the bottom half include Adrian Mannarino, Fernando Verdasco and American giant Reilly Opelka.
Either of Dimitrov, Opelka, Mannarino or Verdasco could make it to the quarter-final and potentially face Denis Shapovalov.

Semi-Finals
The first semi-final promises to be an exciting one. Federer will be up against in form Ruud. The Norwegian is having a dream Clay court season so far and has a perfect game for the surface. As for Federer, he is just playing his second tournament in 16 months and will need a few more tournaments to get back in shape. In the second semi-final, Shapovalov will have to battle past the big serving American. Opelka is coming off an impressive week at Rome and will yet again trust his serve.

It will be a battle of 22 year olds at the final of Geneva Open. Both are in hot form and will look to win their second tour title. They haven’t met on tour yet and hence it would be the first of many of their future meeting. The match would go to the distance with Denis Shapovalov coming off as the winner.
